The VRP program is a wonderful resource and opportunity for the students in my grade one class. They get consistent practice, and support with their emerging reading skills … I see how much my students enjoy their time and have observed how the volunteers build their rapport and relationships with each of the students involved… This is an amazing program and we are so lucky to have these volunteers in the school!

VRP has had an incredible impact on our students and growing their love of reading. Each student looks forward to their special time with the volunteers. It has truly made a positive difference in our students' journey of reading!

As someone who is 79, I can't tell you how young these 6 and 7 year olds make me feel! Spending time with them, helping them, seeing them discover and enjoy the books we are reading....it's something I wouldn't want to give up. It's opening a door for them to a world of imagination, enjoyment and literacy skills....and It’s helping to keep that door open for me.

We are incredibly grateful to have the VRP and all the wonderful volunteers back at our school again this year! The one-on-one reading sessions provide a positive, consistent and supportive reading experience for some of the youngest readers … We greatly value and appreciate the dedicated and consistent work of the volunteers and the highly organized team at VRP.

Having one-on-one time with a caring, patient and skilled adult reader means so much to them; they really look forward with joy and excitement to your sessions. I’ve got two little guys who have been struggling all year. They’ve just mastered stringing together the sounds in the last 2 weeks and it’s so magical 😊😊😊.

When a child's eyes light up with the joy of recognition: "I know this word!"; when a child wants to reread the same book; when a child asks me if she can read with me again, these are my good reasons to continue with VRP. I look forward to each day that I spend reading with the students - this is my reward.
