HAPPY READERS ACROSS THE GTA

Fifteen schools started their reading sessions this week, and most of our partner schools will be back to reading next week. By October 20th, VRP volunteers will be sharing stories and smiles with young readers in 31 locations!

Thank you for your patience, your commitment to learning about VRP, and for spreading the word to your friends. Your referrals and support help us meet the growing number of requests from new schools. Together, we’re making a meaningful difference—one happy little reader at a time!

ALLITERATION SENTENCES

We want to remind you of something Marjie shared last fall!  It’s a great list from Reach All Readers by Anna Geiger, page 74, titled Alliteration Sentences for Phonemic Awareness Warmups.  Here is how to have some fun with your little readers:

Read the sentence slowly and ask the child to tell you what sound they hear at the beginning of all the words. Another great way to teach a letter sound. This activity is done orally. You can print the letter on the whiteboard after you finish so the child can match the sound to its letter.(phonics)

VOLUNTEER SCHEDULES

We're so grateful to now have School Coordinators (SCs) at most of our schools—thank you to all of them for stepping into this important role!  Confirmed VRP Fall Term schedules are posted online. (A few schools had recent updates, so those will be refreshed shortly.) If you have questions about your specific school or schedule, please reach out to your SC or contact Kristina.

NEWS is created for you and your fellow volunteers so if you have a question, some knowledge to share or a great story about an experience at the school please send it our way.  We also love kid friendly pun jokes to keep both you and the kids in stiches!
