ONLY 3 WEEKS LEFT!

The official last day of reading for the 2024-25 School Year is Friday, May 16.  That is 3 short weeks away!  Kristina is in touch with schools requesting the student lists and dates for the Year End Celebrations.  These will likely be booked between May 20 and June 6.  Next week NEWS will be all about this special event for your little readers!

FUN BOOK CHOICE AT GLEDHILL

Three cheers for volunteer Denise Conway who used the form on the website to share this great book choice:  "My students enjoy when I read books from the Hungry Thing series by Jan Slepian and Ann Seidler. They like to guess what food the Hungry Thing is asking for. For example, he wants boop with smackers or shamncakes. They are silly fun interactive stories that keep the kids engaged."

NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK

We try to thank you every week and as often as we can because VRP would not be the great success and joy that it is without the volunteers!  The theme of National Volunteer Week is: Volunteers Make Waves. It highlights the power, impact and importance of individual and collective volunteer efforts across Canada. Like a wave, volunteering is movement building.  So, consider every magnetic letter, Bob Book, sticker and story book a little ripple that will build into a wave of early literacy across our schools.

FOREST OF READING

The Forest of Reading Festival is Canada’s largest literary event for young readers and is continuing to grow each year since its inception in 2007.  It typically culminates in a 2 day awards celebration for the school-aged programs of the Forest of Reading® in Toronto, with satellite Festivals across Ontario that have happened over the years. This year the Festival takes place May 13-14, 2025.  See if you recognize any of the nominated titles in the Blue Spruce category.  Try to find them at your school or local library to enjoy them during VRP!  Tell us which ones are you enjoy the most so we can add them to the VRP Favourite Authors and Storybook List.
