WHAT IF THE CLASSROOM IS EMPTY?

The schools run on a rotating-day schedule. Tuesday this week may be day 2 and the children are in the classroom but another week Tuesday is day 3 and they may be in the gym and not available for reading at that time.  When this happens adjust the VRP schedule by going to get other children on our list and come back to the first group later or take the listed alternates.  It’s important that we be flexible and let the teacher and the day’s schedule determine our reading timetable.  If this comes up regularly and becomes problematic, please speak to Kristina or your SC.

WHAT IF THERE IS AN ASSEMBLY?  

On Tuesday November 11th schools across the TDSB will host Remembrance Day Assemblies.  Each school handles VRP in their own way.  Some schools have cancelled, others have paused for 1 session that morning and VRP Volunteers will attend with the children.  Sometimes special events happen on VRP days and we don’t have prior notice.  If this happens on your reading day please use your best judgement and you and your partner decide whether or not to stay.  Again if this is a frequent occurrence please notify your SC or Kristina.

As of Friday Nov. 7 at 4pm VRP is confirmed cancelled at the following schools on Tuesday morning: Twentieth Street, Frankland, Grenoble, Lanor.

There is an adjusted schedule at Gledhill, Lynnwood Hts and Crescent Town.

DATES TO REMEMBER

Reading for the Fall Term will end as of Friday, December 5.  If your school started late you will likely read until Friday, December 12.  Please check your Reading Schedule if you aren’t sure.  Reading for the Winter Term starts Monday, January 5 and goes until Friday, March 13th.  The TDSB School Year Calendar is here in case you need to plan vacations.
